The arithmetic runs on the figures you type. The tag rules the map applies are Google's own documented requirements for localized versions, linked where they are used.
Website translation software is three different products sold under one phrase. Some of it translates: it takes your pages, machine translates them and serves the result on a subdomain or a subdirectory. Some of it manages: it holds the source strings and the translations and pushes them into your CMS. And some of it, this product included, keeps the record around both: which page exists in which locale, which is stale, and what tags the set of them needs. Knowing which of the three you are shopping for saves a month.

Decide whether you are buying translation or a record
If the pages are not translated yet and nobody is going to translate them by hand, you want a product that translates. If an agency or your own team already does that, you want the record, and buying a translator will not give you one.
Price it against the shape of your site
Translation products are usually priced per translated word and per language, so the bill scales with the site: Weglot's Starter plan is $17 a month for one language and ten thousand words, read on 2026-09-06. A record is priced per site, so it does not.
Check what happens to the tags
Ask any vendor to show the hreflang output on a page that exists in three locales and one that exists in two. This is where the differences are, and it is the part that decides whether a search engine serves the right version.
Ask for the export before the trial ends
Whichever of the three you buy, ask for the full export during the trial: every source string or page, every translation, the locale, the status and the date, as a file your CMS or your next vendor can read. A translation product that serves your pages from its proxy and cannot hand them back is a product you cannot leave; a record you cannot export is not a record. The export is also the fastest way to see whether the product knows which pages exist in which locale, because a product that cannot list them cannot generate the tags for them.
What a site owner asks before running the Website translation software
Do we need translation software if we already use an agency?
Not for the translating. You still need somewhere to know which pages are current in which language, which is what an agency's delivery does not give you.
Is machine translation good enough for a company site?
For most pages now, with a person editing the ones that carry risk. The scope sheet lets you set the share and see what the human half costs.
What does this product not do?
It does not translate, it does not serve translated pages, and it does not do software string localisation. It keeps the record and works the tags.
